Fannie Mae launches new pilot program Fannie Mae recently announced it is starting a pilot program to collect and manage real estate purchase offers for Fannie Mae-owned properties in Orlando, Fla., San Diego, Calif., and Wayne County, Detroit, Mich. Through the pilot, real estate agents submit offers online on behalf of their clients, receive confirmations, and track the status of submitted offers. Just got this news from the AICPA: New 1099 Reporting Requirement Imposed on Rental Property Owners http://media.cpa2biz.com/Publication/Branding_AICPA_NewTemplates/images/News Update/spacer.gif The Small Business Jobs Act, passed in September, created a new reporting requirement for individuals who receive income from rental real estate. Starting in 2012, they will have to provide 1099s to any service provider to whom they pay more than $600 during the year. This means that starting January 1, 2011, rental property owners should start keeping records of payments and collecting Form W-9 information. One recommendation would reduce the deduction amount by 20 percent. The second calls for the exclusion of second residences, home equity loans, and mortgages over $500,000. The proposal has drawn criticism from industry groups who say now is not the time to wrench incentives from a housing industry struggling to get back on its feet.

These banks have been proven to be run by money hungry fools, so it makes sense to impose a higher fee based on their assets. Since 1935, individual institutions' premiums have been based on the amount of their domestic deposits. The FDIC wants to amend the assessment scheme so that it is based on the bank's assets instead. JPMorgan Chase, Bank of America, and Citigroup could together hand over an estimated $1 billion annually in additional fees under the new structure. -sunil
