Ballet Folklórico de James Logan Hosts 25th Anniversary Event, May 16

The Ballet Folklórico de James Logan will be celebrating their 25th Anniversary on May 16th in Logan's Center for the Performing Arts. It will be a two-hour extravaganza featuring Mariachis, singers, live Norteño music, live Puerto Rican Folklórico music, Mexican style harpist, Charro (Mexican Cowboy) roping tricks, and special guest professional dance company, the Ballet Folklórico de Carlos Moreno. The shows always sell out so please get your tickets soon! There will be two shows 2pm and 7:30. Logan Students Participate in U.C. Berkeley Bioengineering Competition

Logan students participated in the Bioengineering High School Competition hosted by undergraduate and graduate students and faculty from U.C. Berkeley on Saturday, April, 4, 2015.  Logan was represented by three teams.  Members of Team A were Meera Ganesh, Isha Doshi, Michelle Chiu, and Summer Batasin and they presented "Combating Freshwater Human Parasites in situ with Biosynthesized Antiparasitics".  Members of Team B were Deepthisri Suresh, Melody Tao, Kevin Qi, and Maxwell Nguyen and they presented "Fighting Drug-Resistant Bacteria with Bacterial Vectors".  Members of Team C were Toan Nguyen, Vincent Peng, Mary Wu, Jhodine Luna, and Priyanka Vatturi and they presented "Reducing Fatality of Naegleria fowleri through Enzymatic Inhibition"

 

Registration Going On Now for Foundation "Bubbles of Fun Run!"

There's still time to register for the New Haven Schools Foundation – Bubbles of Fun Run!  Go to http://nhsfoundation.org/events-2/fun-run/ to download a copy.  Special $15 discount available for registrations of four or more participants in a single transaction for registrations received by April 22.  The Bubbles of Fun Run is a great event for families and serious runners and walkers alike.  Events include:  5K walk & run.  10K run.  400M, 800M & 1 mile races for grades K-5, 6-8 and 9-12 respectively.  Dog walkers welcome also for 5K.  Proceeds help fund student scholarships and teacher grants.

 

New Haven Unified to Host Special Education Job Fair, May 2

The New Haven Unified School District is hosting a Special Education Job Fair on Saturday, May 2, 2015 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. School district employers from all of Alameda County will be present to promote full/part-time special education teaching positions for the 2015-2016 school year. We welcome applicants who are interested in Special Education paraprofessional positions as well. Second Annual Logan Student Art Exhibition to be Held on Thursday, May 7

Save the Date! James Logan High School Visual Art Department is pleased to announce the Second Annual Student Art Exhibition which will be held Thursday May 7th from 7:00 - 9:00 PM in the Performing Arts Center. This year's theme is "Connect the Dots". Don't miss this opportunity to view outstanding artwork, taste Chef's appetizers, and enjoy the sound of guitarist Megan Liebig. Young children can create their own art at our art station. All complements of the Visual Art staff, Chef Herve, and our students. Don't miss it!

 

Special Olympics Returns to Logan

A number of elementary students in moderate/ severe special education classes will join Cesar Chavez Middle, Alvarado Middle and James Logan High School students in the track and field event as part of the Special Olympics School Partnership Program on May 1, 2015 hosted by  James Logan High School.   They will be joined by students from Fremont and Newark Unified School Districts. The Special Olympics Partnership Program is a grant given to the Mission Valley SELPA which includes New Haven, Fremont and Newark school districts.  

 

"Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt" is the Special Olympics motto. Special thanks to our Special Olympics Coordinator, Bria Rosenthal and all the teachers who coached their students in track and field events, as well as in sportsmanship.   

 

All parents, relatives and community members are invited to come out and cheer on our students! 

 

Conley-Caraballo High School Hosts First Annual "CCH Expo"

Staff and students welcomed the New Haven community to the first annual CCH Expo, a multi-media exhibit of student work on Thursday, April 16.  On display were personal statement essays, a slide show of student-selected research, science projects demonstrating the creative re-use of plastic bottles, art posters with social justice themes, book projects, posters reflecting career research, great inventions timelines, a table demonstrating learning modalities, as well as information regarding college, library, training programs, and community service. Pizza was provided and the culinary program served crazy combo cookies including pecan-bacon and lemon-strawberry-white chocolate. 

 

Applications Now Being Accepted for Peer Language Model Program

New Haven Unified School District accepts a few typically developing peers to serve as language models in each of our preschool classrooms.  General education peers are placed according to availability. The Peer Language Model component is an important part of our program.  Children learn not only from adults, but from watching and interacting with other children.  New Haven is now accepting applications for Fall 2015. Special Education Recognition Awards (SERA) Nominations Now Being Accepted

Do you know a staff member who really supported your special education student? Nominate them for a SERA award!
Who should be nominated for the SERA Award?  We believe nominees should be special individuals, who benefit the lives of our students with special needs.  Nominees should demonstrate a variety of the following qualities and characteristics:

  • Hold high expectations for all learners.
  • Have a positive attitude.
  • Be tolerant, willing to listen, and consider and respect the viewpoints of others.
  • Be generous with his/her time and energy.
  • Respect others, including colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Demonstrate professionalism and diplomacy in all situations.
  • Be sincere and gracious in challenging situations when working with students with special needs and their families.
  • Demonstrate exceptional contributions to the lives of students with special needs, including friendship, support and caring.
  • Demonstrate random acts of kindness that impacts students with special needs.
  • Be patient and, relentlessly encouraging.

Union Sanitary District Hosting Open House, Saturday, May 9 

Union Sanitary District is hosting an Open House for the public on Saturday, May 9, 2015 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at their Union City Headquarters. All of NHUSD's students, parents, faculty and staff to join us for a fun, interesting event.

 

Union Sanitary District staff will offer plant tours, interactive demonstrations, kid-friendly activities, and refreshments to visitors. All of USD's teams will be represented, and guests will have the opportunity to meet the people who provide award-winning service to the Tri-Cities: engineers, plant operators, chemists, mechanics, electricians, business services personnel, plan check technicians, and many more. Students will also have the opportunity to talk to our staff members about careers in our industry in a casual atmosphere.
