Welcome back to another My Climate Ready Fremont action update! This month, make waste, not dirt, compost!
Take Action, Compost!
Composting turns food scraps and yard waste into nutrient rich compost that can be mixed with soil to feed and grow healthy plants! Did you know - about 30% of what we throw away could actually be composted? When you compost food, plants, and compostable paper like paper towels, it keeps them from going to the landfill and creating harmful methane, a powerful climate pollutant. Tossing your fruit peels, veggie scraps, coffee grounds and other food waste in a compost bin is easy to do and makes a big difference! Next time you’re in the kitchen, think before you toss! Small actions add up, and composting is a simple way to help the planet. 🌱♻️
Composting in Fremont is easy! Just collect your food scraps, yard waste, and compostable paper like napkins and toss them in your green cart. You can request a free countertop pail that makes it easy and convenient to collect food waste while you cook. To learn more and request your pail, visit the Compost action page and select the “Request a Free Kitchen Pail for Composting” resource at the bottom.
💡Tip: Keep food scraps in the freezer during hot summer months to reduce fruit flies and smells.
