Bat-Watching Programs

Join East Bay Regional Parks naturalists this summer for evening bat-watching programs and learn about these fascinating flying mammals as they swoop, dive, and feed after dark. Bring your curiosity, a flashlight, and a sense of adventure. Find events.


Lake Del Valle Boat Tours

July & August, various dates and times | Del Valle Regional Park, Livermore

Join a guided boat tour to take in sweeping views of the reservoir, watch for birds along the shoreline, and enjoy a perspective of the park from the water. Reservations fill fast! Ages 2 and up. Life jackets are provided. Register here.


Farm Fest

Aug. 9, 10am-1pm | Tilden Nature Area, Berkeley

Spend a fun-filled day at the Little Farm with hands-on crafts, family-friendly activities, and up-close encounters with farm animals. Learn about the many ways farms connect people to food, fiber, and community. Learn more.


Family Movie Night

Aug. 22, 8-10pm | Ardenwood Historic Farm, Fremont

Gather your family and friends for a fun summer evening under the stars with a free screening of Zootopia 2 (rated PG). Arrive early to claim a great spot on the lawn, and bring a blanket or chairs for cozy seating. Please leave pets at home for this event. Learn more.


Crown Beach Fish Festival

Aug. 29, 10am-3pm | Crown Memorial State Beach, Alameda

Celebrate the wonders of the bay at the Crown Beach Fish Festival. Dive in to a day of fishy fun with hands-on activities, shoreline discovery, and family-friendly programs that highlight the amazing aquatic life of San Francisco Bay. Learn more.

Birding 101

Aug. 1, 9-11am | Sunol Wilderness Regional Preserve, Sunol

The Bay Area bursts with bird life. Join a guided walk of up to 2 miles and learn about what birds are doing in the summer months. Birders of all levels ages 8 and up are welcome. Learn more.


Secretive Summer Birds

Aug. 22, 8:30-10am | Tilden Nature Area, Berkeley

Summer is the quietest time for birdwatching. The birds are laying low, so it takes a little extra effort to find them. Learn more.

Canine Capers

July 25 & Aug. 22, 9-11am | Various parks

Dog lovers: Bring your leashed pups on a monthly group hike at a changing destination each month. In July, we'll meet up at the Alameda Creek Trail in Fremont. In August, we're bound for Roberts Regional Recreation Area in Oakland. Human participants: ages 8 and up. Register here.


Nature Photography Walk

July 26, Aug. 13 & 23, various times | Big Break Regional Shoreline, Oakley

Take a guided short stroll and document the beauty of nature. Photos captured during this program can be submitted in the annual photography exhibit hosted at the Visitor Center this fall. Learn more.


Beat the Heat - Morning Treks

Introductions to science and nature for youngsters

Lakeside Littles

July 20 & Aug. 17, 10-11am | Shadow Cliffs Regional Recreation Area, Pleasanton

Tailored to preschoolers, this program offers themed activities to introduce kids to science and nature like, exploring a trail, looking at bugs, discovering shadows, and more. In July, our theme is Ice Cream Science. In August, it's Sandy Summer. Learn more.


Summer Scavenger Hunt

July 26, Aug. 9 & 23, 9:30-11am | Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve, Antioch

The spring flowers have faded, but there is still so much beauty to find at Black Diamond Mines. Search for signs of summer in this fun, self-guided scavenger hunt designed for ages 2-5. Learn more.

This monthly series introduces young learners to science and nature through a lesson and hands-on activities geared toward ages 4-8. August's theme is the Power of the Sun. Register here.


Sea Squirts

Aug. 11, 10:30-11:45am | Crown Memorial State Beach, Alameda

Tailored to preschoolers, this monthly program offers themed activities to introduce kids to science and nature on the shoreline through songs, games, and crafts. Our theme in August is Radical Reptiles. Learn more.

Do you have an idea for a volunteer service project? Whether you're looking to organize a corporate team-building event, volunteer with a community group, or create another specialized volunteer opportunity, we'd love to work with you.


Submit a Service Project Proposal, and our Volunteer Services team will partner with park staff to explore the possibilities and help build a meaningful project that benefits both your group and our Regional Parks.
