The Fremont Green Challenge Gets FIERCE
This month, FIERCE, an organization of sustainably-minded high school students across Fremont, is taking action for a healthy climate and planet with their Fremont Green Challenge competition.

For the competition, which officially started on March 28, the students are tracking their actions and environmental savings on the Fremont Green Challenge platform. This five-week challenge pushes students to consider their daily choices across several sustainability categories with weekly themes:
  • Week 1: Community and Learning (3/28)
  • Week 2: Eat Green, Waste Less (4/4)
  • Week 3: Water Wise (4/11)
  • Week 4: Energy (4/18)
  • Week 5: Free for All (4/25)
Outstanding students will be entered in a weekly raffle for prizes starting on the second week, with a final prize of $100 awarded to the school with the most actions to use toward future sustainability efforts. Fremont students from all five public high schools are participating!

FIERCE students shared their inspirations for taking part in this competition. Sriya B from Irvington HS commented that "environmental sustainability holds a special place in my heart." Rishi G from American HS agreed that they "joined the Fremont Green Challenge to battle apathy towards environmental problems in Fremont and work with other passionate student environmentalists."

Are you a high school student that wants to join? Contact FIERCE on Facebook or by email for more information about how to represent your school.

Every Fremont resident can play along throughout the year by signing up on the Fremont Green Challenge platform and logging their sustainable actions!

Are You a Bike-Friendly Driver? Take the Quiz
The Southern Alameda County Spare the Air team is partnering with Bike East Bay to help teach drivers how to share the road safely with cyclists. Drivers (new or experienced) can test their knowledge about driving safely around people biking and walking by taking a 6-question quiz from Bike East Bay. Answers are provided at the end of the quiz and are specific to California state law. Those who complete the quiz will be entered into a drawing to win a $50 gift card!
