What's Changing When California Reopens on June 15?

What's Changing When California Reopens on June 15?

Alameda County is rescinding its Shelter-in-Place Order in order to fully align with the State's Beyond the Blueprint Framework.

Effective tomorrow, June 15, 2021, new Health Officer Order 21-01a aligns the County with the restrictions, terms, and conditions imposed on individuals, businesses, and activities by the State's Public Health Officer Order issued on June 11, which means no more physical distancing, no more capacity limits on businesses, no more county tiers, and relaxed mask guidance.

Alameda County remains aligned with the State's face masking mandate. Under that mandate, everyone should wear a mask in the following settings, even if fully vaccinated:

  • On public transit and in transit hubs, such as airports, train and subway stations, and ferry landings
  • Indoors in schools, childcare, and other youth settings
  • Health care settings and long-term care facilities
  • Correctional facilities and detention centers
  • Homeless and emergency shelters and cooling centers
  • Union City's City Hall and other City buildings (All workplaces governed by Cal/OSHA Emergency Temporary Standards must continue to follow their
current standards and any forthcoming updates, including masking requirements for employees.)

To help residents and employers understand changing COVID-19 guidance and what moving Beyond the Blueprint means for them, employees, and clients and customers, Alameda County is hosting two Community Updates:

  • For Residents: Tomorrow, June 15, from 6-7:30 pm;
  • For Employers: June 21, from 6-7:30 pm; This Community Update will include an overview of Cal/OSHA's updated standards so the appropriate steps can be taken to ensure a safe work environment.

Expect Temporary Traffic Impacts for Street Paving Project

Over the next few weeks, ACWD and the City of Union City are partnering on a street paving project to improve the street surfaces of Alvarado-Niles Road and Smith Street. This collaboration joins resources to increase efficiency and reduce costs. The paving project is expected to cause traffic impacts - please plan travel routes accordingly.

Project schedule:

June 11 - 25: Expect traffic delays on Alvarado-Niles and Smith Street from Santa Maria Drive to Union City Blvd.

The project comes as ACWD wraps up its seismic improvements to water mains to improve water supply reliability in the area. We thank the residents and businesses of Union City for your patience while we work on these critical infrastructure upgrades.

We do apologize for any inconvenience and thank the Union City community. For more information on the investments made to the water delivery system for the Alvarado-Niles Pipeline Seismic Improvement Project, visit the ACWD website..
