Join the FRC's VITA Volunteer Program For 22 years, the Fremont Family Resource Center's (FRC) Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program has positively impacted our community by providing free tax preparation services to income-eligible individuals and families.  The FRC is currently seeking volunteers for various roles within our organization:  tax preparers greeters schedulers in-take specialists translators (Spanish, Chinese, Dari, Punjabi, and American Sign Language) Volunteers at FRC enjoy the flexibility of choosing their hours, with work primarily performed on nights and weekends. No prior experience is required! The FRC provides comprehensive training for all positions, preparing you to make a difference in our community! Volunteers Needed - Safe Parking Host Site Program - Support Fremont's Unhoused Community The Safe Parking Host Site Program needs dedicated volunteers to administer services to our unhoused community members living in their vehicles. The City of Fremont Human Services Department launched the Safe Parking Host Site Program (SPHS) to respond to the increase in vehicular homelessness. SPHS is one of many programs the Fremont City Council adopted to help address homelessness in Fremont. The program is designed as a safe, transitional space for individuals living in their vehicles. Training is Provided to all Volunteers Volunteers assist with hospitality: Daily participant check-ins and check-outs at the host site parking lots Delivering food Coordinating evening activities  Volunteers may also provide additional support: Providing haircuts or manicures Setting up activities like movie or game nights Editing resumes Collecting gas gift cards for Safe Parkers Volunteers do not stay overnight. Workforce Training Resource The ONE-STOP on-ramp to short-term, low-cost/free education and training in the Bay Area Are you looking to up-skill for a needed promotion, reskill for a new career, get a High School Diploma, or become an entrepreneur? The City of Fremont Human Services Department developed the Workforce Training Resource (WTR) as a free tool for the community. It provides information on low-cost, short-term, post-secondary training and educational opportunities throughout the Bay Area. The site offers various training opportunities for adults at different career stages. It also provides financial aid, resources for entrepreneurs, Bay Area growth industries, salary data, and Labor Market Information (LMI). To learn more and connect to education and training providers, visit our website. Homeless Services Needs List Updated for Summer With warmer weather here, the needs of our unhoused neighbors change. The City is continuing its partnership with Bay Area Community Services (BACS) and asking the community to donate items our unhoused neighbors need during these warmer months. Donated items will be distributed through City programs and services, such as the Safe Parking Program and the Housing Resource Center. Items will also be shared with BACS to ensure they get to those who need them as quickly as possible. An updated Homeless Services Needs List is available for those interested in donating items. The items most needed are the following: Sunscreen Bottled water  T-shirts Light pants Tents All clothing items should be in adult sizes from small to XXXL. Drop-off locations and hours are listed on the Homeless Services Needs List. No appointment is necessary. Interested in fall prevention education and making a difference? City of Fremont Age Well Centers are looking for volunteers to help provide the evidence-based fall prevention program, A Matter of Balance (MOB). The MOB program is designed to help people manage concerns about falls and increase physical activity. This training will certify instructors or Coaches to lead classes.    If you are interested in becoming a Coach, a free training course will be held from August 27-28, 2024, from 12:30 to 5 p.m. each day. The training will be held in San Leandro and covers all that is necessary to teach A Matter of Balance in person. Salaam Food Pantry in South Fremont holds monthly food distributions on the fourth Saturday of the month from 10 - 11:30 a.m., with lunch provided from 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. The Salaam Food Pantry is located at the Islamic Center of Fremont at 4039 Irvington Avenue. California Dream for All Program: The California Housing Finance Agency (CalHFA) launched another round of funding for the California Dream For All Shared Appreciation Loan Program, a down payment assistance program for first-time homebuyers to be used in conjunction with the Dream For All Conventional first mortgage for down payment and/or closing costs. No RVs are permitted at this time.  Affordable Housing in Fremont: In the next few years, more affordable housing is planned for Fremont. Low-income Drivers can Save 50-75% on I-880 Express Lane Tolls: A new pilot program helps low-income travelers use the express lanes on I-880 between Milpitas and Oakland at a discounted rate. Bay Area residents can apply online or by using the paper application from the Fremont FRC. Income guidelines apply, and proof of income is required. Learn more. Renew AC can make home improvement plans come to life - without breaking the bank. Renew AC provides 1% interest loans from $15,000 to $200,000 to qualified homeowners.
