Greetings from Supervisor HaubertDear District 1, May is Mental Health Awareness Month, a time to recognize the importance of mental well-being and to reduce the stigma that too often surrounds mental health challenges. It is also an opportunity to highlight the resources, services, and community supports available to help individuals and families thrive. This month, I encourage you to prioritize your mental health, check in on loved ones, and explore the many local and statewide programs designed to provide support, care, and connection. Together, we can continue building a community where mental health is valued, understood, and supported. Safe Kids Alameda County Car Seat Check-Up Event
This month, I co-sponsored the Safe Kids Alameda County Child Car Seat Safety Event again in Fremont at Washington Hospital West. It was a great day ensuring safely installed car seats for over 30 families, and for those soon to become families! Newly graduated Safe Kids Alameda County students put their training into practice, greeting and assisting families as they arrived for Saturday morning appointments, offering car seat safety checks, guidance on proper installation and usage, and information on the latest car seat regulations and California state laws.
Team Haubert and a few of our interns joined the effort in community service, helping and learning from this amazing group of volunteers. The day wrapped up with lunch and a debrief with Alameda County EMS leader Kat Woolbright!
This was a strong reminder of how important proper car seat installation is... I was surprised by how much I didn’t already know! It’s worth taking time to learn for yourself, friends, and family.
For more information you can visit the Safe Kids Alameda County website or the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) website. You can also click on the flyers below for detailed information on determining the right car seat for your child.
A Great Conversation with our Next Generation of Leaders
I recently had the opportunity to visit Dublin High School to spend time with Ms. Nedieffer’s social studies class, and I have to say, it was a major highlight of my week. I had a great conversation with this group of engaged, thoughtful seniors who came ready with questions about how local government works and what a county supervisor does. We talked about the programs and initiatives we’re working on here in Alameda County, and they also kept things fun by asking questions like how they can become a mayor someday. It’s always inspiring to see that level of curiosity and interest in public service. I walked away really impressed. These students are bright, motivated, and have incredible futures ahead of them. I shared one piece of advice with them: remain lifelong learners by staying curious. The visit wrapped up with a fun class selfie, capturing a memorable moment between our local leadership and the next generation.
