Newsletter: August 2026 Fremont Now Powered by 100% Renewable Energy Fremont has reached a major sustainability milestone—both residents and businesses are now 100% powered by renewable energy! A Citywide Transition To support the goals of Fremont’s Climate Action Plan, the City Council voted in June 2024 to set Renewable 100 as the default electricity service plan for all Ava Community Energy(Ava) customers. Ava is a local, not-for-profit public agency that has generated electricity for Fremont residents and businesses since 2018. PG&E still handles the delivery of electricity—including maintaining the electric grid, handling billing, and resolving outages. Ava’s Renewable 100 plan is a clean energy option, sourced from wind and solar to help reduce communitywide greenhouse gas emissions. City facilities transitioned to Renewable 100 in 2022, residents transitioned in 2025, and businesses just completed their transition this year. Energy Options Customers can choose Renewable 100 (100% renewable energy priced 1¾ cents higher than PG&E), Bright Choice (more than 50% renewable energy priced 0.5% lower than PG&E), or PG&E generation service. For most residents, Renewable 100 is about $6–$7 more per month than Ava’s Bright Choice plan (Fremont’s previous default plan). For an average small business, it’s about $25–$30 more per month. Flexibility for All Customers Even though Renewable 100 is now Fremont’s default electricity service plan, both residents and businesses can change their plan at any time. To change your plan, visit AvaEnergy.org/Fremont or contact Ava’s customer support at 833-699-3223 (weekdays, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.). Plan changes typically take one to two billing cycles to take effect. Fremont’s citywide transition to Renewable 100 reflects our strong commitment to cleaner energy and a climate-ready future. Registration is now open for Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 19! Join us from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at various cleanup sites across Fremont as we work together to protect our creeks and waterways and keep them free of litter and debris. Be sure to register early, as spaces are filling up quickly. By reducing waste and protecting our natural resources, we can make a real difference! Learn More & Register Solar + Battery Storage Discount Program Fremont is once again partnering with Bay Area SunShares to help residents install home solar and battery storage. This fall’s program offers exclusive discounts from pre-vetted installers from September 1 to November 15. A new solar-plus-battery system can provide reliable backup power and support our community’s climate‑ready future. Already have solar? No problem! Installers also offer system augmentation and battery-only projects. If you’re interested in making your home more resilient, we encourage you to explore the SunShares program and sign up for their email list to receive updates. Informational webinars will also be offered. Learn More Electrify My House Webinar Ready to give your home an energy-efficient glow up? Join a free Electrify My House webinar hosted by Cool the Earth and Ride and Drive Clean. This webinar will focus on home energy efficiency and electrification and highlight the practical steps households can take—at any budget—to improve comfort, lower energy bills, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The webinar will explore why many households are choosing to electrify their homes, including cleaner indoor air, improved heating and cooling performance, resilience during power outages, and long‑term cost savings. Participants will learn about home efficiency upgrades and electrification options and receive tips tailored for renters and homeowners. Incentives, rebates, and local resources will also be covered, along with simple ways to get started. Learn More & Register New MyFirstEV Incentive Program California has introduced MyFirstEV, a new incentive program offering $3,500 off a qualifying new zero‑emission vehicle (ZEV) or $1,750 off a qualifying used ZEV for first‑time buyers. Eligible vehicles include battery‑electric and fuel‑cell electric models. The rebate is applied instantly at the dealership, eliminating paperwork and wait times. The program aims to make clean transportation more accessible while advancing California’s climate goals.
