Image
Lighting; The Quick and Dirty Guide As of January 1st, 2014, incandescent lights are no longer available due to updated federal efficiency standards. Fortunately, there are many energy efficient options including compact fluorescents (CFLs), LEDs and halogen bulbs. Here's what to look for: 1) Color Temperature - Fluorescent light aren't always cold and blue. Look for 2700 - 3000K for a nice warm, soft white and up to 6500K for a bright, cooler white. Check the EnergyStar  website to see some examples . 2) Brightness - Lumens is the measure for light output (wattage measures energy used). Roughly, 450 lumens = 40W incandescent output with 2600 lumens = 150 W bulb on the high side.
