New Survey: Teachers on College and Career Readiness

From EdSource:     Critical thinking key indicator of college and career readiness   New Survey Reveals Teacher Attitudes Toward Major Goal of Education Reforms   A survey by EdSource, in partnership with the California Teachers Association , provides new insights into teacher attitudes toward preparing students for college and careers, a principal goal of major education reforms being implemented in California, including the Common Core State Standards.   Of the 1,000 teachers surveyed, 95 percent support setting college and career readiness as the goal for the state's students. The teachers surveyed also said they felt critical thinking skills are a far more important indicator of college readiness than standardized test scores.   But teachers also expressed a need for a clearer definition of what constitutes "college and career readiness" and for greater professional development to support these goals. Source: The Atlantic As more people move into rentals and fewer people move out, low vacancy rates have meant skyrocketing prices. Add in years of stagnant wages, and it’s easy to comprehend why affording rent is becoming a more difficult prospect for many families. And according to a new report, things may only get worse in the decade to come. The Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies and Enterprise Community Partners report that the rental population in the U.S. will climb by about 4 million people. They also expect the number of severely rent-burdened Americans (those paying 50 percent or more) to increase by 11 percent over the decade, to over 13 million people in 2025. That does not bode well for Americans trying to build their savings so that they can afford a down payment on a home. The bat was first noticed and picked up by a private citizen at 8:45 am on September 16. The bat was retrieved by the Alameda County Vector Control Services and was tested for rabies by the Alameda County Public Health Laboratory.  Any person or pet that touched this bat may have been exposed to rabies. New School Testing Results are In

Just got this from the Principal at Thornton: Dear Thornton Community: Today, September 9 th , the State of California released the results of the 2015 CAASP which your child may have taken in the spring of 2015.  The results released will reflect school and district performance from around the state. Reports for individual students will be mailed to FUSD families later this month. The Department of Education has made a video available to help parents interpret their child’s results.
