Online valuation engines definitely are far more manageable, but to try to give a proscribed price range for a  unique asset is crazy.   From DS News Researchers Suggest 'Kelley Blue Book' of Real Estate to Limit Bubbles A study completed by the University of Miami School of Business Administration suggests that fragile market bubbles could be prevented if the public were aware of how assets are valued. The research, set to be published in the Journal of Financial and Qualitative Analysis, analyzed China's 2007 stock market. From DS News        FDIC Sees Number of Problem Banks Fall in Q2 As bank failures dwindle, FDIC institutions continue to see their own coffers swell, with an agency report finding that banks with government guarantees earned $34.5 billion over the second quarter. The FDIC also noted fewer "problem" institutions for the fifth consecutive quarter. Those identified as problems fell from 772 to 732, making this year one for the smallest problem banks since fourth-quarter 2009. Assets for institutions on the decline fell from $292 billion to $282 billion. Home prices rose 6.9 percent in the second quarter

Case-Shiller Index Shows Record Quarterly Gain Home prices rose 6.9 percent in the second quarter, according to the Case-Shiller Index compiled by Standard & Poor’s, the strongest quarter-over-quarter gain since the quarterly index began in 1987. In June, the monthly 10- and 20-city indices rose 2.2 percent and 2.3 percent, respectively, S&P reported. About 15.3 million homeowners with a mortgage were underwater, or 30.9 percent, a drop from 15.7 million or 31.4 percent.
