Mission Lakes Neighbors Ask Union City Mayor and Council to Rethink East West Connector

Tomorrow
 (2/27/18)
will be your LAST, but also BEST opportunity to stop the East West Connector as currently planned.

The city council was trying to rush this decision through quietly.  But this is now receiving the attention it deserves.

East Bay Times provides additional information on UC fiscal emergency:

The East West Connector has been on the books since the 60s and reflects the thinking of that era.  This $320M road is oversized.  This 90ft wide road will cross the Old Alameda Creek twice and will construct a 6-lane bridge across the Alameda Creek Trail.  This highway runs straight through residential neighborhoods - children growing up next to busy highways are 8x more likely to develop childhood leukemia.  The General Plan says, without the East West Connector, the "Gateway Site" cannot be fully developed.  Great!  What they call the "Gateway Site", we call our Ramirez Farm.  Do we want a community farm in our back-yard or more auto-dependent town-homes?

The city has not thought enough about cheaper and more progressive alternatives.  Now they want more taxes.  Force them back to the drawing board.

TOMORROW IS NOT THE MEETING TO SIT OUT.  IT IS NOT THE MEETING TO LET OTHERS FIGHT FOR YOUR COMMUNITY.  DEMOCRACY ONLY WORKS WHEN RESIDENTS PAY ATTENTION AND SHOW UP.

WE NEED FULL MOBILIZATION, UNION CITY, FREMONT, EAST BAY, PENINSULA.  EVERYBODY NEEDS TO COME AND PREVENT THE THEFT OF ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION FUNDS FOR AN OVER-SIZED OUTDATED HIGHWAY.  IF WE LET THEM BUILD IT THEY WILL NEVER TAKE IT BACK OUT.
