UNION CITY CELEBRATES THE NEW & IMPROVED KENNEDY YOUTH CENTER

Union City is celebrating the Rededication and Grand Opening of the new and improved Charles F. Kennedy Youth Center located at 1333 Decoto Road from 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm on Friday, May 11, 2018.  The public is invited to join the Rededication Ceremony and Grand Opening activities that include free center tours, interactive indoor /outdoor games, hip hop dance classes, laser tag, DJ music, entertainment and food.

This collaborative, youth directed, community project has been 8 years in the planning, and is the first of three phases.  Filled with youth oriented art, murals, colors and design, this project has resulted in creating a new look, a new life and a new future for the City's first, original community center.  Named after Union City's first Parks & Recreation Director, Charles F. Kennedy, in 1971, the Kennedy Youth Center celebrates Union City's commitment to transform the first (and oldest) community center into a vibrant, modern center focused on providing a safe and supervised environment, yet filled with youth driven interests and programming.

The new Kennedy Youth Center has a gaming room, computer lab, classroom, lounge, atrium, street art patio and cafe.  Instructor led classes, life and job skill workshops, homework assistance, social service referrals and daily recreational activities will be offered.  The center will offer a basic drop-in afterschool teen program beginning Monday, May 14 from 2 pm – 6 pm, but full programming with a new and exciting summer drop-in program will begin June 18.

For more information, please go to www.UnionCity.org, email KennedyCenter@unioncity.org, or call the new Kennedy Youth Center at 510-675-5329.
