Logan's Cybersecurity Teams Advance to Next Round in CyberPatriot Competition

James Logan High School's computer science program added a class in Cybersecurity this year and created four teams to compete in the Air Force's CyberPatriot competition.  As first year teams in this 11th-year competition, the teams were hoping to learn and grow the program for next year. The program is very proud to report that three of Logan's teams are continuing to the Gold Tier SemiFinals.

In addition, during the State Round, Logan Team 1 finished third in the state in the Gold tier.  They placed ahead of over 200 other California Gold High School teams.

Please join us in congratulating Logan's CyberPatriot Team members.

Two Way Dual Immersion Parent Information Meeting
At Searles Elementary, we have experienced tremendous success during our first year of implementation of the Spanish Two-Way Dual Immersion Language Program.  We have been impressed with our students' growth in their bilingual and biliterate skills, academic achievement, as well as cross cultural competency. This program is a wonderful way for Native Spanish speakers and Native English speakers to become proficient in both languages.

We are excited to continue to build on the success of our Two-Way Dual Language Immersion program.  If you are a parent of an incoming kindergarten student or a student who will be a 1st grader for the 2019-2020 school year and are interested in the program, please attend our mandatory Parent Information Meeting.

Logan Track and Field Team to Host Olympic Week in February

During the first week in February 2019, the James Logan High School Track and Field Team takes center stage as it hosts Olympic Week.  Olympic Week will be a celebration of athleticism, accomplishment and encouragement. Former US Olympians will visit K-12 schools throughout Bay Area school districts to share their personal and Olympic stories.  Students will be encouraged to accomplish their dreams in athletics and life through goal setting, dedication and teamwork. This clinic will be dedicated to Speed City, the 1968 Olympic team and Dick Fosbury.

Olympic Week will conclude on a high note with the 32nd Annual Willie Davenport Olympian Track and Field Clinic on Saturday, February 9, 2019.  Students and amateur athletes throughout California and neighboring states will converge on the James Logan High School campus for a unique opportunity to learn from some of the world's most renowned athletes.  In 2016, nearly 1000 coaches and athletes participated in hands-on workshops at the largest "learn by doing" clinic in the United States. Workshop leaders include:

  • Dick Fosbury – 1968 Olympic Gold Medalist and inventor of the "Fosbury Flop" high jump technique

  • Michael Powell – 2 time Olympic Silver Medalist and current Long Jump World Record Holder

  • Kevin Young – World Record Holder 400 meter Hurdles

  • Karin Smith – 5 time Olympian in the Javelin

The 2019 Clinic will have special meaning as the Bay Area pays tribute to the 1968 Olympic Team, the most decorated track and field team in US history.  In a year of war, assassinations and urban riots, the 1968 track team provided lights of hope and showcased America at its best. The 1968 U.S. track and field squad not only blew away the competition but also the record books during a historic seven days at Mexico City.  More information about the event can be found here and at missionvalleytrackandfield.com
