[NHUSD Information] A message from Superintendent Thompson regarding a "Zoom-bombing" incident (Spanish translation included)

Dear NHUSD Community,

It has come to our attention that one of our classes experienced a breach of security today in a Zoom meeting, which resulted in students being exposed to inappropriate language.  We investigated this incident and have identified the student who is responsible. This student will face disciplinary consequences. The principal of the school affected will be working closely with the students affected and will arrange to provide any necessary support.

Principals will be working with teachers to ensure that all educators follow the necessary steps to secure their Zoom rooms. In the short-term, teachers will require that all students will be placed in a "waiting room" prior to entering a class. Only students with verified access will be allowed out of the "waiting room".  Soon, students will no longer be able to access Zoom classrooms with anything but their NHUSD email accounts. These security settings will be mandatory for all NHUSD Zoom meetings. Your principal will be communicating the steps necessary for students to take to sign on to Zoom in this secure way.

We apologize for this concerning incident and look to you for support in ensuring that your student logs onto their Zoom meetings following district security protocols.

Thank you for your patience as we ensure all students are safe and secure while actively engaged in distance learning.

Sincerely,

John Thompson, Ed.D

Superintendent
