We are having a Virtual Town Hall this Saturday, September 26, at 10:00 AM. Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci will welcome and introduce newly appointed Alameda County Fire Department Chief William McDonald. Chief McDonald will be talking about the recent fires in California and the Alameda County Fire Department's role in supporting the firefighting effort. In addition, we will bring you updates about COVID-19, crime trends, and city projects. The town hall will be live on our Facebook page. 2020 State of the City Address on October 5

The City of Union City is hosting the 2020 State of the City address delivered by Mayor Carol Dutra-Vernaci on October 5 at 6:30 pm. Due to the ongoing shelter-in-place and global pandemic, the event will be streamed virtually on the city's BlueJeans teleconferencing platform and on Facebook Live.

In the Mayor's address, she will look back on the City's past year accomplishments and challenges and then introduce the City Council's priorities moving forward.

A special feature of the event will be the presentation of the top three winning entries of the City's "Why I Wear A Mask" youth photography contest. This contest started back in August to help raise awareness within the youth community about the importance of wearing a mask. Union City's own independent photographer and educator, Don Feria, whose work has been commissioned by Nike, Stanford University, Discovery Channel and the MacArthur Foundation, judged the photo entries and selected three winning entries. In addition to the photos being displayed during the State of the City Address, the winners will receive a cash prize for their efforts in being socially responsible citizens of the community.
