Volunteers still needed for the point in time count

Volunteer for 2024 Point-in-Time Count

Every two years, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires communities to conduct a Point-in-Time (PIT) Count of individuals, youth, and families experiencing homelessness. The PIT Count provides a "snapshot" of both sheltered and unsheltered community members and is used to better understand and respond to homelessness in Fremont and beyond.

Join the City of Fremont on Thursday, January 25, 2024, from 5:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. for the 2024 Alameda County PIT Count, organized by EveryOne Home. Your contribution as a volunteer will help ensure an accurate and thorough count.

The CleanStart Mobile Hygiene Unit is back in service on its regular schedule. You can see the most up to date information on the CleanStart webpage.

Showers are also available at each of the Fremont Age Well Centers from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday on a first-come, first-served basis.

Returning participants can pay $5 for breakfast by registering here. If you are a returning participant who brings a friend who has never visited and you both will enjoy a free breakfast.

Thank you to those who have given needed items for our homeless programs. We have received dozens of donations of items that are already being distributed to our unhoused neighbors. Items like the hand knitted beanies donated by the Indo-American Seniors Association Fremont are helping people stay warm during this cold weather.

There is a high demand for the items on the needs list during the colder months. We are still accepting donations. Currently men's jackets sizes XL-XXL are highest need.

The Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth is holding its 17th Annual Crab Feed on Friday, February 16, 2024. This year's event will include a "Dine-in" and "Drive-Thru" option.

Crab dinners go on sale now. Purchase tickets at the Age Well Center at Lake Elizabeth offices between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. or online. Buy early and save! You can purchase your crab dinner for $75 today. After January 12, tickets will be $80.

Commissioners are appointed by the Mayor and approved by the City Council to serve a four-year term and may serve two terms. A new regional platform to keep people housed

Stay Housed Bay Area is the first regional platform of its kind—carefully curated with up-to-date, relevant information in plain language in both English and Spanish. Stay Housed Bay Area makes it easy for anyone in the Bay Area to find available resources near them. The site also makes it possible to do regional outreach about these resources for the first time.

South County Housing Resource Center Drop-In Hours

Our Homeless Services team hosts drop-in hours as a South County Housing Resource Center in the Fremont Family Resource Center. This is an opportunity for people seeking housing problem-solving support, shelter assessments, referrals, or housing assessments. For more information, call the Fremont FRC at 510-574-2000.

Affordable Housing in Fremont

In the next few years, more affordable housing is planned for Fremont. Nearly 800 new affordable rental units will become available for low-income households. To learn more, visit the City's Upcoming Units webpage.

In addition, through the City's First Time Homebuyer Program, Below Market Price (BMP) homes located in Fremont will continue to be offered for sale as they become available. To learn more and view available homes, visit the City's BMP webpage.

Assistance for COVID-19 Related Funeral Expenses

Under the Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2021 and the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, FEMA provides financial assistance for COVID-19 related funeral expenses incurred after January 20, 2020.
