| | Final Issue of the Human Services Department Newsletter
Over the past three years, the City of Fremont Human Services Newsletter has provided valuable information about the services and programs available to the community in a safe and accessible manner. What started during the pandemic as a reliable email source providing timely updates about community services, then morphed into an official newsletter format in January 2021.
Today, we are writing to share that we are retiring this weekly newsletter. As a valued subscriber, your email address will automatically be transferred to our monthly FRC Update newsletter email list, so you continue receiving information that keeps you connected to the community. If you already receive the FRC Update in your email inbox, no worries, you'll only receive one copy in your In Box.
However, if you don't want to receive the FRC Update, simply unsubscribe by using the link at the bottom of this email by October 14, 2024. If you change your mind in the future, you can unsubscribe at any time directly from the FRC Update, giving you full control to edit your subscription. The FRC Update will be emailed once a month. It provides all the information you love with fewer emails. The Human Services Department values your support and readership. We are excited to continue sharing important information in the FRC Update newsletter. Thank you for being a subscriber to our news and information!
For those interested in keeping up with everything Fremont, you can sign up for the City's weekly digital newsletter, The Fremont Connection, here. | | Donate to Help Keep Our Unhoused Neighbors Safe and Warm As the weather turns colder, the needs of our unhoused neighbors shift. Donated items will be distributed through City programs and services, such as the Safe Parking Program and the Housing Resource Center. Items will also be shared with BACS to ensure they get to those who need them as quickly as possible. An updated Homeless Services Needs List is available for those interested in donating items. The items most needed are the following: · T-shirts · Jackets/Coats · Sweatpants · Sweaters · Undergarments · Socks All clothing items should be in adult sizes from small to XXXL. Drop-off locations and hours are listed on the Homeless Services Needs List. No appointment is necessary. If you have questions, please contact Paula Manczuk-Hannay in the City's Human Services Department at 510-574-2088 or by email. Discover Opportunities for Post-Secondary Education Outside a Four-Year Degree.
With school back in session, high schools across the Bay Area are hosting College/Career Fairs for students ready for the next phase of their lives. A four-year degree is valuable, but considering the cost and time commitment, not everyone is interested in a traditional university path. For students not attending a four-year university, how can we prevent them from falling into low-skilled, low-wage jobs?
The City of Fremont Human Services Department developed the Workforce Training Resource (WTR) as a free tool for the community. The WTR offers a wide range of low-cost/free, short-term, post-secondary training and educational opportunities throughout the Bay Area, including Adult Regional Occupational Programs, Pre-Apprenticeships, Apprenticeships, nonprofit-sponsored certificate programs, and California Community College Career Education Certificates, among others. The site also includes links to financial aid, resources for entrepreneurs, Bay Area growth industries, salary data, and Labor Market Information.
The WTR is the gateway to diverse local, low-cost, and free training programs.
Please visit our website to learn more about the programs available in the Bay Area. | | Volunteers Needed - Safe Parking Host Site Program - Support Fremont's Unhoused Community
The Safe Parking Host Site Program needs dedicated volunteers to administer services to our unhoused community members living in their vehicles.
The City of Fremont Human Services Department launched the Safe Parking Host Site Program (SPHS) to respond to the increase in vehicular homelessness. SPHS is one of many programs the Fremont City Council adopted to help address homelessness in Fremont. The program is designed as a safe, transitional space for individuals living in their vehicles.
Training is Provided to all Volunteers
Volunteers assist with hospitality: - Daily participant check-ins and check-outs at the host site parking lots
- Delivering food
- Coordinating evening activities
Volunteers may also provide additional support: - Providing haircuts or manicures
- Setting up activities like movie or game nights
- Editing resumes
- Collecting gas gift cards for Safe Parkers
Volunteers do not stay overnight.
