Fremont Recognized for Global Climate Action

Fremont has once again been recognized by the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate and Energy (GCoM) for our strong commitment to advancing global climate action. In 2024, Fremont earned 8 out of 9 available GCoM badges, showcasing our leadership across multiple climate action areas: Mitigation, Adaptation, Energy, and Compliance. These achievements stem from our continued efforts to reduce emissions, prepare for climate risks, and expand access to sustainable energy solutions for the community.

By reporting annually through the CDP-ICLEI Track and aligning with GCoM's Common Reporting Framework (CRF), Fremont is demonstrating transparency and accountability in our climate action progress.

This global acknowledgement is inspiring and highlights the strength of our community's shared vision for a climate ready Fremont!

Local Storm Drain Campaigns
We know it's easy to overlook all of the storm drains in our neighborhoods. However, what ends up going down the drains can really affect our local waterways, and if they're clogged with debris, there's a greater risk of flooding. So, we're excited to share the following campaigns.

Storm Drains Connect Streets to Creeks Campaign
Our storm drains connect directly to our local creeks and the Bay. That means everything that washes into the streets, from pesticides to pet waste, can harm our waterways.

To raise awareness, the Alameda County Clean Water Program is teaming up with Bay Area artist Joanna Sokua on a public outreach campaign that highlights the importance of keeping pollutants out of our storm drains.

The campaign is calling on residents to keep local creeks and the Bay clean by reducing pesticide use, picking up pet waste, using a car wash, and more. Learn how you can help and pledge to take an action! As a thank you, the first 200 pledges will receive a limited-edition notebook. Stickers are also available while supplies last.

Adopt-a-Drain Program
Want to do even more? Adopt a storm drain! Adopt-a-Drain is a community-driven program that encourages residents to help monitor and maintain storm drains in their neighborhoods. Participants "adopt" a local storm drain and commit to keeping it clear of debris like leaves, trash, and other blockages to prevent flooding and protect local waterways from pollution.

To celebrate Earth Day, the City is participating in a nationwide challenge to see which community can adopt the most storm drains. From now until April 30, sign up to adopt a drain and get a free reusable Adopt-a-Drain string backpack. Let's rally together for this national challenge and keep our community clean and healthy—one drain at a time!

Adopt a drain before April 30!
