Newsletter: September 2025 | | Now's Your Chance to Save on Solar | | | The City is excited to partner once again with Bay Area SunShares to help our residents go solar. The program, which runs from September 15 to November 15, 2025, offers exclusive discounts on home solar and battery storage systems from pre-vetted installers. A new solar and battery system can give your home a reliable source of power while helping our community accelerate clean energy adoption and become more climate-ready. If you're interested in going solar, we encourage you to explore the SunShares program and its exclusive discounts. As a reminder, the federal solar tax credit is set to expire on December 31, 2025, and to qualify, your solar system must be installed and interconnected by PG&E before the end of the year. With that credit going away, it's especially beneficial to explore other available discounts, like SunShares. | | Volunteer for Coastal Cleanup Day | | | Coastal Cleanup Day is this Saturday, and only a few volunteer spots are left! Be sure to register to join us for the City's cleanup events. We're hosting events this Saturday, September 20 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. throughout Fremont to keep our local creeks and waterways free from litter and debris. Students can even earn community service hours for their participation! By volunteering in Coastal Cleanup Day, you can help reduce waste, protect Fremont's natural resources, and make a real difference in our community! | | Stormwater Awareness Week | | | National Stormwater Awareness Week is September 22–26. To recognize this week, we're educating our community on the importance of stormwater and how we can all work together to protect our local waterways. Stormwater doesn't just disappear—it carries whatever's on the ground into our waterways. It flows—untreated—into creeks, rivers, lakes, and oceans, carrying pollutants with it. Protecting our water starts right in your own neighborhood. Here are a few simple ways you can help: ✅ Adopt a storm drain and keep it clear of debris. ✅ Pick up after your pets. ✅ Install a rain barrel to reduce runoff and water your garden. ✅ Properly dispose of paint, oil, and yard waste. ✅ Use less fertilizer and choose native plants. Every small action helps reduce pollution and protect clean water for everyone! | | Help Shape the Future of Transportation in Alameda County | | | The Alameda County Transportation Commission (Alameda CTC) is updating its Countywide Transportation Plan (CTP), and your input matters! The 2026 CTP Community Survey is now live. Share your transportation experiences and priorities to help Alameda CTC shape the future of transportation in Alameda County. You can get involved today: | | BayREN's New Efficiency and Sustainable Energy (EASE) Home Program | | | The Bay Area Regional Energy Network (BayREN) has launched their Efficiency and Sustainable Energy (EASE) Home Program that helps income-eligible households in Alameda County make home upgrades. The program offers comprehensive technical support and affordable fixed pricing for a variety of home upgrades designed to improve comfort, health, and safety, while also reducing energy consumption and lowering utility bills. Eligible upgrades must include at least one weatherization upgrade, such as improved insulation, duct sealing/repair/replacement, or whole-home air sealing. Additionally, households can choose to add other upgrades, including the installation of a smart thermostat, weatherstripping, pest control, mold remediation, the installation of high-efficiency electrical appliances, and electrical infrastructure upgrades. Eligibility requirements include living in a single-family home (four or fewer units) that was built before 2010; having a household income under or at 120% of the area median income; and installing at least one energy-saving weatherization measure. BayREN is aiming to register 126 Alameda County households into the program by March 2026. Once all the spots are taken, households will be placed on a waitlist for the next round of funding. | | Tax Credits and Incentives for Home Upgrades | | | The City is sharing the following information about tax credits and incentives for home energy upgrades. Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit This federal tax credit offers savings on a range of home energy upgrades, including heat pumps, insulation, windows, doors, and heat pump water heaters. Due to recent legislation, this credit is scheduled to expire on December 31, 2025. Upgrades must be completed by this date. Anyone considering these types of home upgrades is encouraged to act now before this credit expires. Learn more. TECH Clean California Incentive California residents can save on the installation of a heat pump and heat pump water heater with the TECH Clean California incentive. Those who receive an incentive for a heat pump water heater may still qualify for the Energy Efficient Home Improvement Credit to further reduce their costs. Heat pumps are a smart long-term investment. They provide both heating and cooling, use less energy than traditional HVAC systems, and can significantly reduce utility bills over time. In addition to the financial benefits, heat pumps lower greenhouse gas emissions, helping to make our homes and communities more sustainable. With this project, FUSD is leading the way in implementing bidirectional charging for electric school buses. This technology allows the buses to not only receive power but also send it back to the power grid. By serving as mobile energy storage units, the buses can support the community's power grid, especially during outages. With this project, FUSD is helping to shape best practices for future V2G projects and taking a major step toward energy resilience and sustainable school transportation.
