Haubert Alameda County Supervisor District 1 Step Into The Light Youth-Creative Arts Competition Bay Area high school students are invited to participate in the Cow Palace's 3rd Annual Step into the Light (SITP) creative competition, honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. This youth arts competition features essay, poetry, art, and video categories. Visual art submissions may include photography, painting, sculpture, and mixed media, all inspired by Dr. King's powerful speeches addressing injustice and hope. Fun fact: Dr. King spoke at the Cow Palace in 1964! SITP offers young people a meaningful opportunity to share their creativity, call out injustice, and make a positive impact in their communities all while building an impressive addition to college or skilled trades school applications. It's also a fun and therapeutic personal interest project! Prizes include: Grand Prize: Apple AirPods Max Wireless Headphones Best of Show Winners (each category): $300 All high school artists who complete the entry requirements will have their work exhibited at the Step into the Light Art Exhibit & Awards Ceremony on February 11, 2026, even if they do not place in the competition.
