FOOD TRUCKS JOIN THE FUN

FOR ‘STUFF THE BUS’ EVENT THIS WEEKEND

UNION CITY (Thursday, Aug. 11, 2011) – A “Gourmet Food Truck Festival” that has won the favor of hundreds of local residents this summer will be part of the fun this weekend when the Union Landing Walmart hosts its second annual “Stuff the Bus” event to collect back-to-school supplies for New Haven Unified School District students.

New Haven and Hayward Unified buses will be parked outside the Union Landing Walmart from Friday through Sunday, and shoppers will be invited to purchase items from a list of school supplies and “stuff the bus” with donations for students. Donation bins will be available 24 hours a day.

Volunteers from the Union City Lions Club, Rotaract of Fremont, the New Haven Schools Foundation and others from the New Haven community will greet shoppers and accept donations from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday and from noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. “Andy the Armadillo” and other volunteers from Texas Roadhouse will be around to help from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the Union City Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with Grillstars and the Food Truck Mafia, will host a special gathering of the food truck festival that has proven so popular on Thursday nights this summer. Several of the most popular gourmet “mobile restaurants” from around the Bay Area will be onsite starting at 4 p.m., “delighting our guests with flavors from every region of the globe,” in the words of Chamber Executive Director Dana Hernandez.

“This new food culture has hit mainstream and these types of events are popping up everywhere,” Ms. Hernandez said.

Vendors will include Grillstars, That's Sweet Dessert Truck, El Malecon, Mogo BBQ, Mobowl and others. A disc jockey will provide music and entertainment.
