Masks: Masks are strongly recommended at the FRC and some agencies require them. | | 880 Express Lanes More Affordable for Low-Income Drivers A new pilot program will help low-income travelers use the express lanes on 880 at a discounted rate. The FRC is one of four hubs that will help low-income households apply for the Metropolitan Transportation Commission (MTC)'s new FasTrak® discount program called Express Lanes START. When participants use the express lanes on the 880 corridor between Milpitas and Oakland, they'll pay discounted rates. Solo drivers receive a 50% discount off the posted toll, two-person carpools receive a 75% discount and three or more do not pay a toll. - If you already use FasTrak®, just apply for the MTC discount.
- If you don't have FasTrak®, apply for the MTC discount; and if you qualify, then apply to FasTrak®.
Bay Area residents can apply online or by using the paper application within the Express Lanes START brochure which you can obtain from the FRC. If you need assistance applying, the FRC Welcome Center can help. Ohlone College is hosting Super Saturday, an open house to showcase what Ohlone College has to offer the community at both of their campuses. Pars Equality Center Fremont will host this FREE, in-person information session. Senior Immigration Attorney, Sima Alizadeh, will present U.S. naturalization eligibility, the application process, with a special segment tailored for Afghan new arrivals, followed by a question and answer session. Presentation will be in Persian Farsi with Dari & Pashto interpreters available the entire session. This event will not be recorded. This is an information session only, and not a form filling event. Parents - it's not too late to attend these virtual parenting classes from 4Cs of Alameda County. Tent Partnership for Refugees is offering a professional mentorship program for Afghan refugees. The program enables the individual to receive one-on-one guidance and support from a professional at a large company. All forcibly displaced Afghans who can speak at least intermediate English are eligible to participate in this program. Ohlone for Kids and Teens (OKT) is offering 30 eligible Tri-City families a $150 scholarship for OKT's fun summer enrichment program. Classes are for students entering first to twelfth grade and include canvas painting, calligraphy, perfecting reading skills, coding, youth sports camp, and more. See flyer for overview. Since March 2020, Medi-Cal renewal processing was put on hold, and beneficiaries retained their Medi-Cal coverage due to the continuous coverage requirement. The continuous coverage requirement ended on March 31, 2023.
Alameda County Social Services has resumed the Medi-Cal renewal process. If you do not complete and submit your renewal packet, you may lose your Medi-Cal coverage starting July 1, 2023. See details in the attached flyer in English, Spanish, Chinese and Farsi.

Scam Alert from Social Services: Be aware of current scams that are requiring individuals to pay fees to apply for or renew Medi-Cal. Please note that the Alameda County Social Services Agency will never require payment to apply for or renew Medi-Cal. | | Fremont's Free Tax Service is Extended
Alameda County residents have until October 16 to file their taxes this year. Fremont's Free Tax Service will extend tax preparation services until May 13. People can still schedule in-person appointments with our volunteer tax preparers at the Fremont FRC. Please note our virtual tax service has ended for this tax season. In late February, the Alameda County Board of Supervisors ended the County's COVID-19 State of Emergency, allowing the Eviction Moratorium to end. We are currently in a 60-day grace period in which landlords cannot evict tenants. The Eviction Moratorium will expire on April 29, 2023 at 11:59 pm. Evictions will be allowed to proceed after that.
If you are at risk of eviction, the FRC can provide information, referrals, and mediation regarding the eviction process and other services, depending on your situation. The Alameda County Social Services Agency is hosting the CalWORKs Public Service Trainee Program, a transformational one-year paid job program. Selected applicants will receive $24 per hour as a temporary Social Services Agency employee, 14-weeks of training, a 12-month clerical internship, and one-to-one job search assistance.
